Moving forward by learning attentiveness

I've been on the quest for attentiveness for awhile now.  A few months ago I shared with you the verse that I was trying to focus on in that quest:

Gen. 26:18 - "Surely the Lord was in this place and I was not aware of it."

Recently God has been drawing my attention to that truth again.  How quickly my focus slips away.  How easily I get distracted!  So in my reading a few weeks ago, God gave me this statement from Paul to refocus my attention:

Acts. 17:27-28 - "God is not far from each one of us . . .For in Him we live and move and have our being."

Such an eloquent way to say - we are completely immersed in God.  We live in Him.  We move in Him.  We have our being in Him.  That pretty much covers it, right : )?!  God is part of every moment and molecule of my life - and yours.  That is reality.  Which means that to the extent that I am unaware of His presence, I am not in touch with reality : ).

Let me say that again and direct it to you.  If you're not living in constant awareness of God's presence, then you're not living in reality!  I don't know about you, but that thought makes me want to sit up and pay attention : ).  So my quest for attentiveness takes on a new intensity, because I don't ever want to be accused of living in la-la-land!!

I want to be in touch with spiritual reality as I move through this day.  So as I clean and cook and run errands and interact with people, I want to remember that God is in the middle of all of it with me.  And that changes everything!

  1. Mrs. B,

You nailed it! That last paragraph is almost identical to what I have been praying lately. Lately, I have been drawn into the to-do list mode and ordering my day around what I can check off that list. It is ungratifying (even though I have quite a few check marks), unfulfilling, and has put me into a general crummy
mood :) Yes! I want to be in touch with spiritual reality as I move through this day. That is so right. Thank you. My heart needed to hear this TODAY!

    Love you,
    "Rachie"
